Active: an initiated member

Alumnae: a female member who is associated with a colligate chapter of a national fraternity

Chapter: a chartered undergraduate or alumnae unit of a national organization

Community: we are part of a Greek Community not Greek System

Dirty Recruitment: a term describing illegal activity by a fraternity member to recruit a potential new member

Hazing: unethical and forbidden pre-initiation activities. This applies to both mental and physical activities of which are banned by the university, the local and state government, as well as the Panhellenic Association and the Interfraternity Council

Initiation: The ceremony in which a new member becomes an active member

Interfraternity Council (IFC): The governing body of the 30 men's fraternities

Legacy: The definition differs by chapter. The term generally refers to the son, grandson or brother of an already initiated member of a fraternity.

Multi-Cultural Greek Council (MCGC): governing body of the six multi-cultural fraternity and sorority organizations.

National Panhellenic Council (NPC): a conference body composed of delegates from the 26 recognized national women's sororities.

Panhellenic Association: the governing body of Ohio State 's 15 national sororities

Panhellenic Council: the governing body of the 9 traditionally African American fraternities and sororities

Philanthropy: active effort to promote human welfare

Potential New Member (PNM): any person of the Ohio State community who is not a member of a chapter.

Quota: the number of new members determined by a local college, which any Greek chapter may bid during a specific quarter

Recruitment: an organized activity to meet PNM
