Fraternities at The Ohio State University have an informal recruitment process which occurs primarily in the fall and winter quarters. The first step in recruitment is registering here with the link at the top of this page. Registering is important because fraternities at Ohio State will use the information we provide them to contact you about exciting recruitment events.
Recruitment events, often held at a fraternity’s chapter facility, offer a relaxed atmosphere in which you can casually meet the members in a fraternity, discover common interests and goals, and experience first hand the ideals upon which each organization is founded. The diversity within the fraternal community gives anyone considering fraternity life an opportunity to find a group of men that share their interests and ideals. Don’t limit yourself with any prejudices you may have, instead, take a look at as many organizations as you can, and examine the extent to which those organizations subscribe to and practice values that are consistent with your best expectations.
Ohio State’s recruitment process works on a system known as “deferred recruitment” which means the University has mandated that a student may only join a fraternity after having successfully completed 12 credit hours. This means you can’t join a fraternity in your first quarter in college. However, this does not mean you can’t become involved with fraternity life, by attending recruitment events or interacting with fraternity men to get a picture of what fraternity life really is. After you get to know the organizations on campus and the men in them, you may be extended an invitation to join as soon as you have met the University requirements. You can receive invitations from multiple fraternities, and decide which organization is the best fit for you.
Will Cordes is currently the Interfraternity Council's Vice President of Recruitment, so if you have any questions or comments he can be reached at cordes.22@osu.edu.
